WestCana Services Inc. is looking for a Maintenance/Janitorial person that is responsible for effective functioning and appearance of the physical facility, furniture and equipment and the preventative maintenance program at the facility. They are responsible for the security of the building and play a major role in ensuring the safety of staff and residents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and implements a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly schedule of preventative maintenance activities to ensure the facility and equipment are safe and in good working order
  • Provides cleaning services in the resident common areas in accordance with the established work routines
  • Reviews maintenance log and takes corrective action to ensure problems are addressed in a timely manner
  • Provides minor building, electrical, plumbing and equipment repair services to ensure the optimum functioning of the physical facility and equipment
  • Assists residents with concerns and issues in their suite as initiated by a maintenance work order
  • Assist in terminal cleans of resident’s rooms
  • Identifies and investigates physical plant deficiencies and equipment malfunctions and take the appropriate corrective action
  • Sources and orders services/supplies/parts focusing on obtaining the highest quality for the most reasonable price
  • Liaise with outside suppliers/contractors to facilitate the repair and replacement of damaged or broken equipment
  • Makes recommendation to the food Service Manager for quality, efficiency and budgetary improvements
  • Receive and stores all non-kitchen related deliveries
  • Delivers all cleaning and paper product supplies to the floors, maintaining the proper levels of inventory
  • As an integral member of the site management team, participates in decision-making particularly in matters related to staff and resident health
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Experience & Qualifications

  • Certificate from a program in general maintenance or extensive experience as a maintenance worker, with supervisory skills
  • Skills in light carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting and equipment maintenance
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend and communicate clearly in English
  • Current Workplace Hazardous Material Information’s Systems certificate
  • Building Service Worker Certificate or related work experience
  • Institutional cleaning experience
  • Must possess a valid B.C. Driver’s License
  • Must be willing to be on-call and carry a cellular phone or pager
  • Current and clear TB Test
  • Current Criminal Record Check through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General
  • Previous experience in Seniors Housing environment is preferred
  • Knowledge and ability to operate all fire equipment
