PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Salesperson welcomes the customers by greeting them; offers assistance in finding what they are looking for; directs customers as required by escorting them and suggesting items; advises them by providing information on products; helps customer make selections by building customer confidence, offering suggestions and giving their opinion(s); closes the sale; documents the sale and processes payments.

Since the retail industry is dependent on customer satisfaction, retail salespersons have to be able to handle all of their duties with competence and efficiency while remaining courteous and accommodating at all times.

GENERIC RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are generic duties of the Tile Centre/Store Salesperson:

  • Entrusted with the task of opening or closing the Tile Centre/Store counter and POS
  • Watching customers closely to help prevent theft
  • Supporting the cleaning of the retail space
  • Properly answering inquiries by phone
  • Staying up-to-date regarding product knowledge
  • Selling products through guidance and persuasion
  • Securing consumer satisfaction (recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and desires)
  • Handling payments and properly using the POS to the sales final conclusion

o Compute sales prices, total purchases and receive and process cash or credit payment

o Prepare sales slips or sales contracts

  • Greet customers and help identify their requirements
  • Promoting products and partaking in sales-promotion campaigns
  • Advising customers on the use, utility, and maintenance of products
  • Answering customers’ questions regarding the Tile Centre/Store and its products
  • Arranging merchandise in display areas
  • Open and close POS (performing tasks such as counting money, separating charge slips, vouchers and balancing cash drawers)
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and pick-up/delivery practices
  • Maintain records related to sales
  • Watch for and recognize security risks and thefts, and know how to prevent or handle these situations
  • Place special orders or call other stores to find desired items
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Perform other reasonable tasks as required

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Showroom:

o Must ensure that the displays are complete with proper price tags, labels and are positioned in the showroom as per the Company approved plan

o Update the stock availability on display in the showroom by placing on the proper sign provided by the Marketing Department

o Check the displays daily and report any damage or missing samples or wrong price tags to the Manager

o Ensure that all crates are secure and safe for the customers

o Ensure that the showroom is always clean and safe for the customers

o Provide TTS’s current approved Customer Relations Vision, which is subject to change with proper notification to the sales staff

o Never sell a customer but inform the customer regarding their options so they make the decision

o Must always use proper product codes when referring a product to a customer, ordering from the warehouse and closing a sale on the POS

o Must properly co-ordinate and facilitate the sale with the warehouse

o Properly document the sale and delivery process for every sale

o Properly file all sales receipts that items have been picked-up on a daily basis as per TTS’s procedures

o Properly file all sales that are pending pick-up and/or delivery

o Ensure that all required documents are properly filed and placed in the monthly box

o Properly open and close the showroom

  • Sales Payments:

o Ensure the proper closing of their daily sales and payments at the end of their shift as per Company policies

o Must get the customers signature on all sales receipts regarding the Terms of the Sale (All Sales Are Final, No Exchanges or Returns)

o Always communicate with the customer regarding the sales, pick-up and delivery process

  • Telephone Calls:

o Must answer the phone by the 4th ring and always use proper telephone etiquette

o Ensure that telephone calls are directed to the correct person or department

o Do not put a customer on hold for any more than 1 minute

o Apologize that you can’t assist them at this time and for the inconvenience

o Ask for their contact information and return their call within 15 minutes

o Check the voice mail every morning at opening and react to the messages accordingly

  • General Tasks:

o All salespersons must be available for all trade shows

o Ensure that the front counter is always clean, organized, uncluttered and well stocked

o Inform the Manager regarding the need to order office supplies

o Inform the Manager regarding all POS issues and problems

o Check the customer’s Washrooms to ensure they a re clean and well stocked on an hourly basis throughout the day, if required clean

o Ensure there is always fresh coffee available in the customer waiting area

o Perform other reasonable tasks as required by the Manager
